  A Lake Norman Restaurant Review

With the severe drought causing the water level to drop significantly in Lake Norman I know many of you are probably in the "same boat" as my husband and I are in...we just can't get off our lift anymore.  Since we can't enjoy our love of boating right now we thought it would be a good idea to check out some sights and restaurants other than the local ones.  We've heard from some local folks that Blowing Rock is an interesting little town up in the Blue Ridge Mountains so off we went for the day to check it out.  The locals know what they're talking about...it is a lovely little town with an eclectic grouping of shops and restaurants.  After looking around a bit we settled on Canyons for lunch.  Canyons offers casual fare ranging from appetizers, soups and salads, burgers, sandwiches and platters, as well as a large selection of Southwestern dishes.  They also have a decent selection of wine and beer and all at a reasonable price.  I had the Wild Turkey Sandwich piled high with a good quality of sliced turkey along with peppers, onions, mushrooms, pepper jack cheese and mayo served warm on a Kaiser roll and a side of fries.  It was tasty and it hit the spot but it wasn't anything special that I haven't had before.  My husband decided on the Chicken Burrito Especial.  The wheat tortilla was stuffed with chicken, both jack and cheddar cheese and refried pinto beans.  This was dolloped with sour cream and accompanied with rice.  Again, yummy but forgettable.  What was not forgettable was the view from the restaurant!  The food was good but we didn't choose Canyons because of their menu...there were other restaurants in town with much more interesting selections.  We choose it strictly for the spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains that it offers.  If you're lucky enough to snag a table on the outside deck, you'll want to sit there all day!  It is possible to get a good peek of the mountains from some of the inside tables but at this time of year the air is crisp and the weather is cooler up there and sitting inside just wouldn't compare to sitting out on the deck.  Do yourself a favor and take the scenic route on the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's worth the trip!
