Lake Norman has gone to the dogs...and cats!Leave a comment »
I have written quite a bit about Lake Norman real estate and how wonderful life is here, but what I have yet shared is that the Lake Norman area is extremely pet-friendly! Thanks to the availability of homes with large lots, an abundance of parks and open space and our huge Lake Norman, I can't think of a better place to have pets, particularly dogs. If you drive around looking at homes, you won't see a lot of fenced yards unlike other areas of the country. As a matter of fact, when I take a walk I see a large Doberman who barks and runs towards me but stops short at the property line due to an Invisible Fence. With our large yards these are more common than traditional fences.
DOG PARKS Dog Parks are also available around Lake Norman and they are known for their friendly humans as well as dogs.
DAY and OVERNIGHT CARE Would it surprise you to know that Lake Norman has it's own pet camp? Camp Wagging Tails in Cornelius offers Doggie Daycamp, Doggie Nights, Cat Camp, Training, Grooming and Bathing and more fun than you can, well, shake a tail at! Day Campers arrive by 9am when they are grouped according to size, activity level and age. Their parents can pick them up until 6:30pm during the week and 5pm on weekends. Their 3 1/2-acre site includes 6 large fenced outdoor play areas with lots of toys. They use artifcial turf to assure clean and safe fun.
Yes, that's right, they have a bone-shaped swimming pool for those campers who like the water sports and play! They also have an indoor playroom with door that open to the outside for both indoor and outdoor play. Their cabins range in size from 4' x 6' to the luxury cabins at 8' x 6' complete with TV, Web cam and toddler beds. The TV quality webcams let you watch your camper at play anytime...you can actually watch how your pet is being treated!
Their Cat Condos have: continual fresh air circulation, two built in ledges, privacy panel for the litter area, port holes to adjoining cabins, tempered glass doors and glass backs for maximum visibility. There is a climbing tree where they get a chance to play outside their room and have some fun too.
So what if your dog or cat is not the camping type...a little more of a spa environment perhaps? Then the Pampered Pets Inn may be just the place for your favorite 4-legged friend! Located in Mooresville, this luxury boarding and interactive day care facility is truly an alternative place for your pets to stay while you are away. They offer interactive play and on-site grooming...truly pampering your pet in every way!
The Pampered Pet Inn also has their version of Kitty Condos! My third favorite it the Canine Castle in Cornelius. At the Canine Castle there is a retail shop that sells Canidae and Felidae...an All Life Stages Formula for dogs and cats offering optimum nutrition according to their website. They also offer other Organic and Human Grade dog and cat food. (I must ask, what is human grade dog and cat food....I'll find out and get back to you!) Of course, there are many other wonderful pet facilities around Lake Norman but this will give you a good idea of what is available!
OTHER PET SERVICES AND SUPPLIES Other pet supplies and services in our greater Lake Norman area can be found on the website: Pet Parade. Now I must admit that we don't have a dog. However, if we did I can telll you I would definitely use the SCOOPERMAN! Yes, he does just what you are thinking....removes pet wastes from your Lake Norman home! The SCOOPERMAN will "find, scoop and dispose of pet waste on your property" He is quite a character...I've seen him in his Super ScooperMan outfit at the Dachshund Dog race in Mooresville! He services Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Catawba, Lincoln and Rowan counties and can be reached at 704.953.5453. I also have a favorite pet sitter: True Companion Pet Service. Laura True is the owner-operator. She is a warm, caring person who will do daily dog-walking and pet sitting. She does not have a staff so you know you are getting the best when you hire her. No surprises just special care at your own home! Laura told me today about a friend of hers who sells Flint River Ranch all natural oven-baked dog and special cat foods that are delivered straight from the oven to your home. To learn more go to their website: Flint River Ranch. There is one other exceptional service we are fortunate to have here in Lake Norman; a 24/7 medical center. We have had to go there several times and have found their staff and doctors to be exceptional. Carolina Veterinary Specialists Medical Center has four locations in North Carolina and there is one right here in Huntersville on Statesville Rd. 704.949.1100. Besides cats and dogs they treat avian and exotics as well. They work directly with your veterinarian. To learn more go to: Carolina Veterinary Specialists.
Whether it is playing outside in your own yard, at a park, are even on your boat, I can't think of anywhere that offers more for you pets than Lake Norman!
