A Lake Norman Restaurant Review By Kathy K.
I know most folks living in the Lake Norman area have more than likely already enjoyed a great meal at The Rusty Rudder or at the very least have heard of it but since this blog is viewed by so many transplants new to the area I thought it fitting to let them know about this jewel of a place to eat as well. First of all, you can't beat the view! It's located right on Lake Norman with awesome views and plenty of transient boat slips for those who prefer to come by boat. There are two bar areas...one inside and another outside. The same is true for dining...inside for those who prefer the air conditioning and a two tiered deck outside for those willing to brave the heat. The first tier is completely shaded and with several ceiling fans keeps the deck very comfortable even on those humid, 90 plus degree days and the deck below has tables with umbrellas for shade. We sat on the second deck under the umbrella on a 90 degree day and the breeze kept us quite comfortable though the flies and wasps were a bit pesky. On occasion there is live entertainment as well. On to the food...the Fish Taco's for $10.00 are by far the best I've had anywhere so far. The flour tortilla is served with blackened grouper and a corn and black bean salsa mixed with an incredible cilantro lime cream sauce. You can't go wrong with this one! The Spinach Veggie Wrap at $7.00 is good but can't compare to the Fish Taco. The wrap has more than enough avocado, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and sprouts but I couldn't taste the boursin cheese that was supposed to be in in at all. My dining companion gave a thumbs up for the Turkey Wrap which was $8.00. It was loaded with turkey, swiss cheese, sprouts and tomatoes and included a raspberry mayonnaise. All sandwiches come with a choice of 4 different side orders. Our heavily tattooed server was attentive and had a great sense of humor which added perfectly to the whole feel of the place. If you're looking for a casual environment to eat great food and enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Norman than this is the place for you! Rating: ▲▲▲▲
